Mental Health: While in Crisis, 4 Tips to Keep You Looking Good under Stress

Remember your two-year-old’s famous first sentence, “Me do it!… Me me me.” Me-me care or self-care means something different to everyone. For me, taking care of me means taking care of my outer shell and my inner self. My outer shell being my body, what other people see. My inner self, being my spirit, one component of what drives my outer shell to be, to do, to sense. So let’s talk about four tips to keep your outer shell happy.

Eating properly.

It can be challenging to eat properly when you’re getting a divorce or newly single and your income is low. But it’s possible. For example, develop a support network and split on groceries, buy bulk, package and freeze your meats, vegetables, and fruits. Always look for the discount bins.

Dressing up.

Consider dressing up as taking care of your outer shell. It’s like anything else, if you look good, you’ll feel good, or at least you can be fooled to believe that you feel good. So, get out of your track pants and sweat shirt, as much as possible especially when you go outdoors to run errands. Every little touch goes a long way and your outer shell will look better.

No rush policy.

Adopt a no rush policy. Slowing down your outer shell, may prevent accidents from occurring, may prevent you from forgetting things, from getting overtired and exhausted. When you’re newly single, it’s easy to think that everything is a rush job, never a moment to breathe, coupled that with rushing the kids to hockey or soccer or baseball. Needless to say, it doesn’t do you any good and, after a while, you’ll get exhausted and possibly sick.

Physical being.

Do something physical that you love. For example, I love biking and walking regularly. If you want your physical me-me self to be happy do whatever you need to do to get your body moving.
