Getting Divorced in the District of Columbia (Washington DC)
The District of Columbia grants a decree of divorce as a “no-fault” divorce. The parties are required to be separated voluntarily for 6 months, or one year without cohabitation.
Residency Requirements
One of the parties must be a resident of the District of Columbia (Washington DC) for at least 6 months prior to filing for divorce.
Waiting Period
The court will grant a final judgement of divorce after the required time for appeal has expired.
