Psychotherapist Brooke Donatone has some interesting views on the problems facing millennials today. Some believe this generation suffers from widespread narcissistic personality disorder, but Donatone theorizes that they simply haven’t been taught how to think for themselves or develop conflict negotiation skills. Their helicopter parents have done that for them every step of the way, and now the twenty- to thirty-somethings (the new 18) fear becoming adults. Even the smallest decisions feel overwhelming, leaving them unable to deal with living lives of their own.

Depression is soaring and suicide is one of the leading causes of death among college students of this generation. Whether or not they will outgrow learned helplessness and learn to cope has yet to be determined. Until then, some millennials will probably continue to bring their parents along on job interviews.
