Okay, maybe there is no such thing as a good divorce, but certainly some are better than others. Even among the Hollywood elite, there are a few that stand out.

The Good

Elin Nordegren and Tiger Wood’s marriage could have ended in an ugly battle, but the two parents seem to be doing what’s best for their daughter, Sam, and son Charlie.

Jesse James and Sandra Bullock managed their divorce with discretion, and the two are even managing to live separately in the same city.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore seem to be the poster-couple for divorce, remaining an important part of each other’s lives and their daughters’.

Despite Mel Gibson’s millions being on the line, he and Robyn Gibson parted without making it a battle.

Sometimes divorce is even delayed for the sake of the kids, just as Hugh Hefner and Kimberly Conrad Hefner held off divorcing until their son turned 18.

Once in a while there’s a couple that never married and went their separate ways. But when it counted, Ryan O’Neal was there for Farrah Fawcett during her battle with cancer.

Here are some of the marriages that worked and still do, despite the pressures of Hollywood: Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, keeping it private seems to be the key; Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, a second marriage for each but going strong; Annette Benning and Warren Beatty, Warren casting aside his ladies’ man image for the duration; Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, two successful careers and making it last; Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, down to earth and devoted to each other; Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan, married only two years when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s yet holding strong; Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, not married officially but have been together long-term and happy.

The Bad

Then you have the biggest divorce settlements in Hollywood, with some ex-spouses hitting the jackpot when glitz and glamour couples split.

After 21 years of marriage to Michael Douglas, Diandra Luker got $45 million and two homes, one in Beverly Hills, the other in Majorca.

Seems Kelsey Grammer’s third wife, Camille, got $50 million. He has since married wife number four, Kayte Walsh. Again, no prenup signed.

James Cameron and Linda Hamilton called it quits within 18 months and Linda walked away with $50 million. Cha-ching!

Kevin Costner became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars during his 16-year marriage to Cindy Silva. That settlement awarded Cindy $80 million of Costner’s fortune.

When Madonna sought a quickie divorce from Guy Ritchie, it cost the singer a mere $92 million and a couple of English properties.

Amy Irving was able to successfully contest a prenup for a final payoff of $100 million from Steven Spielberg.

After 17 years, Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison divorced and she ended up with a $118 million dollar settlement.

A whopping $425 million went to Robyn Denise Moore when she divorced Mel Gibson after 31 years. Good for Robyn, but bad for Mel’s wallet, that is.

The Ugly

When it comes to the ugliest divorces, Hollywood celebrities don’t have an exclusive. But with intense media scrutiny, especially during a break-up, the down and dirty gets revealed to all. Who tops the nastiest divorce list?

Looks like Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards rose to the top as one of the most brutal divorces ever, even among Hollywood’s many. And, we may continue to see them in the news for years to come.

When Heather Mills went on the attack and tried to tarnish Paul McCartney’s reputation, the British press wouldn’t have it. In the end, it seems the mud-slinging tactic backfired and she got considerably less than she asked for, a paltry $48 million when she asked for $250.

Christie Brinkley was pretty darn angry when she learned of her husband’s affair. Peter Cook’s attorneys tried their best to paint her reactions in a bad light, but she turned the tables on them.

Liza Minnelli and David Gest sued and counter-sued even before the divorce was filed. It continued for another four years, ugly allegations flying from both courts. Finally, they opted for a no-fault divorce.

Kim Basinger was married to Alec Baldwin for 7 years. Sadly, the divorce was nasty and included a bitter custody battle over their daughter. Even after, the battle continued, leaving Ireland a casualty of that war.

Linda and Hulk Bollea (Hogan) have gone a few rounds in the ring, a real-life script for this former wrestling king couple.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries have to go on record as the most publicized and shortest marriage yet. Was it true love or a money-making scam?

Ron Perelman and Ellen Barkin; David Hasselhoff and Pamela Bach; Bill Murray and Jennifer Butler; Dennis and Victoria Harper; Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall; and the list goes on … but enough of that.

Who’s been married five times or more? Here’s a few you may recognize: Kenny Rogers; Joan Collins; James Cameron; Billy Bob Thornton; Jerry Lee Lewis; all at five times married. Mickey Rooney; Larry King; and Elizabeth Taylor are at eight; and Zsa Zsa Gabor at nine, with the last being the longest.

So there you have it, everything you may have, or may not have, wanted to know about celebrities and the Hollywood marriage— the good, the bad, and the ugly.
